Scott #U363 Entire with Illegal Postage.

This is a Scott #U363 entire from Lowell Mass that has two Scott #J38 1c postage due stamps because the sender of the letter illegally used cutouts from two Scott #U294 entires as additional postage. The sharp eyed postmaster was not fooled by the attempt and added the postage due stamps.

Between July of 1885 and November of 1917 the postage required for a 1 oz. cover was 2c. This cover may have been an overweight by only a fraction of an ounce or weighed upto 2.9oz. to necessitate the extra postage.

As always comments and suggestions are always welcome. To Contact Riverside
